Impeach him again
=================

Asked what would follow if the unpopularity of Donald Trump and the Republican House delivered the Democrats a gain of fifteen, twenty or twenty-five seats in the 2026 midterms, John Kiriakou answered with a question of his own: "And then what? They've got no ideas. How in the world do they intend to govern?"

The prediction

His co-host supplied the answer, "Well, they'll impeach", and Kiriakou took it up as his own forecast. "And I'll tell you another thing," he said. "If the Democrats do win a majority in the House, and then they immediately move to impeach Trump again ... they should never win another race."

Asked whether he meant that as a punishment, he confirmed it in those terms. Ted Rall's summary of the party, "they're utterly worthless", follows immediately, and Kiriakou does not dissent from it.

The argument behind it

The warning is the sharp end of a longer complaint Kiriakou made that morning about a party he describes as devoid of ideas. Earlier in the same conversation he had said that the necessity coming out of the State of the Union was for viable third parties, and had endorsed the slow model: regional strength first, built the way the Farmer-Labor and Socialist parties were built, and the way Bernie Sanders began as an independent candidate for mayor of Burlington before decades of work carried him to the national stage.

The left in this country, in his account, does not want to do that work. It wants a rally on a pleasant Sunday every four months rather than standing out in the rain every day, and a national strike organised through Facebook groups rather than the organisation of the working class. Impeachment, in that frame, is another substitute for a programme, a thing to do instead of governing.
