Maxwell at a work camp
======================

Maxwell at a work camp is John Kiriakou's objection to the security classification given to Ghislaine Maxwell, raised on the DeProgram programme in July 2025 as what he called "a minor point, but something that I've often wondered about."

The rule as he states it

Kiriakou says he has made the argument publicly for years. Convicted paedophiles, in his account, are "almost always locked up in low security prisons", and the placement is bracketed at both ends.

They are barred from the bottom of the scale by the nature of the offence: "They're not eligible for minimums because they're paedophiles, which means they're dangers to society." They are kept from the top of it for their own preservation: "they don't go to mediums or maximums because they'll be attacked or killed or beaten or tortured or whatever" by the prisoners already there.

The result is a narrow band of the federal system in which such prisoners are held, which Kiriakou has described elsewhere in discussing the standing of sex offenders among other inmates.

The anomaly

Against that rule, Maxwell's assignment stood out. "She's at a minimum security work camp," Kiriakou says. "How the heck did that happen? Why were the rules waived for her? Why is she getting special treatment?"

The refusal to speculate

Asked directly what his own answer was, Kiriakou declined to supply one: "I don't know. I don't have an answer." He would say only that "it doesn't make any sense to me."

The host drew the wider inference in his place, that unexplained facts invite invention, and that "there may not be a conspiracy, but when things don't make sense, people fill in the blanks." Kiriakou did not extend the point.

On the underlying conviction he is not agnostic. Asked in the same conversation whether Maxwell had been railroaded, he answered "oh, I don't think so. I think she was guilty," adding that others should have been prosecuted alongside her and Epstein but that "she got what she deserved."
