Targeting information between allies
====================================

Targeting information between allies is John Kiriakou's framing of the leak, during the 2026 Iran war, that Russia had been giving Iran targeting information. His reaction on reading it was that it was expected: "well of course they're giving the Iranians targeting information. They're allies."

He places it in a series of equivalents, the United States giving Ukraine targeting information, Russia giving it to the North Vietnamese, and the United States giving it to the Afghan mujahideen along with Stinger missiles, and closes the list with the general rule: "This is what enemies do to one another."

The practical conclusion he draws is diplomatic rather than military. Asked how to stop it, his answer was to "reach out directly to the Russians and say please stop. Help us negotiate some kind of a ceasefire." That is consistent with the reporting he was asked about the same day, that Donald Trump had approached Vladimir Putin to broker one.
