Tucker Carlson 2026 FARA referral
=================================

The Tucker Carlson 2026 FARA referral is the criminal referral to the U.S. Department of Justice against Tucker Carlson that alleged treason, espionage and Foreign Agents Registration Act violations and that circulated in March 2026 as an AIPAC-adjacent escalation of the campaign against him.

Kiriakou's misattribution and the Loomer claim

John Kiriakou, a personal friend of Carlson's, said the reflexive assumption when the news broke was that the CIA had filed the report, because "they file crimes reports against people every single day." Kiriakou said the attribution "didn't really make sense to me" even as it circulated, and Carlson himself initially took the same view. The next day, on Kiriakou's account, the pro-Israel political activist Laura Loomer publicly claimed authorship of the referral, in what Kiriakou characterises as an admission of being "an instrument of Israel."

Legal versus physical exposure

Carlson had told Kiriakou he saw no serious legal jeopardy, he was, in his own words to Kiriakou, "blessed with plenty of money" and had "great lawyers", and that the referral was "meant to silence me, and it's not going to silence me." Kiriakou agrees on the legal analysis but says he worries about Carlson's physical safety: "there are a lot of crazy people out there," and "lie in wait for somebody like ... happened to Charlie Kirk" is a pattern he takes seriously. Carlson no longer lives in Washington, D.C., which Kiriakou treats as an incidental protection.

What Kiriakou reads the referral as being for

Kiriakou treats the referral as an example of a broader pattern: "this case is not about" Carlson specifically, in the same way his own Espionage Act prosecution was "not about John Kiriakou", it is about "silencing literally anybody who may be thinking of blowing the whistle on waste, fraud, abuse, or threats to the public health or public safety."
