Jack Devine
===========

Jack Devine is a former CIA officer and, briefly, one of John Kiriakou's superiors. Kiriakou's account of him is a study in liking a man and rejecting his testimony.

"I had the good fortune to work for Jack Devine briefly in 2001 or 2002. Great guy, great officer, true believer in the CIA and the belief that the CIA is the good guy. God bless him."

The disagreement

Devine, Kiriakou notes, "insists adamantly" that the agency was never involved with cocaine, where Sheriff David Hathaway, who spent thirty years at the Drug Enforcement Administration including in senior management, agrees with Kiriakou entirely.

Asked directly who is right: "I think the sheriff is right. I think Jack Devine is wrong."

On how a good officer comes to be wrong about it: "I think he's either wilfully wrong, or just pretending, like Sergeant Schultz used to say on Hogan's Heroes: he knows nothing. Nothing. But I think the evidence is out there that the CIA was facilitating the importation of cocaine."
