*U.S. Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan; John Kiriakou cites Weinberger's assessment that Jonathan Pollard's espionage caused "grave damage" — the highest category of harm — to U.S. national security.*

- **Position:** U.S. Secretary of Defense (Reagan administration)
- **Per Kiriakou:** Called the Pollard damage "grave"

**Caspar Weinberger** served as U.S. Secretary of Defense under President Reagan. [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou) cites Weinberger's assessment of the [Jonathan Pollard](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/jonathan-pollard) espionage case: that the damage was *"grave"* — which Kiriakou notes is the highest level of damage in the classification scheme.[1] Kiriakou frames this as the reason Pollard served every single day of his thirty-year sentence with no time off for good behavior.[2]
