**Haaretz** is the Israeli daily newspaper whose September 2026 investigation into [Benjamin Netanyahu](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/benjamin-netanyahu)'s handling of pre-[October 7](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/october-7-attack) warnings [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou) has described as *"easily the biggest bombshell yet regarding whether Netanyahu let October 7th happen."*[1]

## Kiriakou's assessment

Kiriakou frames Haaretz as the class of source that shifts a story from claim to record. It is, he says, *"literally the most highly respected newspaper in all of Israel. A newspaper that has a gigantic budget for investigative journalism and they investigated the daylights out of this."*[2]

The 2026 investigation ran for two years and, per Kiriakou, was *"by a very well-respected reporter who is sourced to the teeth. He dotted all the eyes, crossed all the tees."*[3]

## The investigation

The findings, as Kiriakou summarises them from the report: Netanyahu received explicit warnings before [October 7](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/october-7-attack) from [Mohammed bin Zayed](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/mohammed-bin-zayed) and from Egyptian intelligence chief General Abbas Kamel; he told each *"he had the situation under control"*; and, per senior Shin Bet officials cited in the report, *"never shared details of those warnings with his intelligence services. If he had, it could have changed their entire threat assessment picture."*[4][5]

## Netanyahu's response

Netanyahu *"just announced plans to sue Haaretz for libel and he blasted the investigation as false."* The Prime Minister's Bureau called the report *"an absolute lie"* and said Netanyahu *"did not speak to the president of the UAE during the period in question, and he received no warning from him."* Kiriakou's assessment of the suit is that *"the lawsuit will probably not go very far"* given the two-year sourcing.[3][5]

The story did not stand on Haaretz alone.
