Jennings Randolph was a long-serving U.S. Senator from West Virginia, first elected to Congress in the Roosevelt era. John Kiriakou recounts that as a George Washington University student he found Randolph listed in the Washington phone book, called simply to thank him for 50 years of service, and received the advice he says he wrote down and kept: “Always do the right thing. This city is too full of people who are willing to do the expedient thing.”[1][2][3]
