Kiriakou says that around the time MK-Ultra was being developed, a Swiss scientist invented LSD, a drug he describes as capable of manipulating the mind, letting users see colors and people that do not exist, and that the CIA considered whether microdosing people with it could allow their minds to be controlled. [1] He says the agency began by using it on sex workers, who were instructed to pick up dates and bring them back to a safe house, where the CIA would dose them with LSD without their knowledge to see if it could get them to reveal their secrets. [2] Kiriakou also describes a related MK-Ultra experiment in San Francisco in which the agency released a bacterium into the city’s air and public transit system on a foggy day, causing eight people to contract a rare respiratory infection, before trying to combine that approach with LSD. [2] [3] He says the CIA also dosed the yeast at the only bakery in a small French village with LSD, and that everyone who ate the bread “went nuts for a day or two,” though he says the program never succeeded in taking over anyone’s mind or bringing down Chinese or Russian communism.
