*A CIA obfuscation tool revealed in the Vault 7 leaks; per John Kiriakou, the agency embedded snippets of Farsi and Cyrillic in the code of domestic hacking operations so that any discovery could be falsely attributed to Iran or Russia.*

- **Revealed by:** Vault 7 (WikiLeaks)
- **Purpose (per Kiriakou):** False-flag attribution to Iran or Russia

The **Marble Framework** is a CIA code-obfuscation tool revealed in the [Vault 7](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/vault-7) leaks. [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou) describes it as the practice of infecting computers domestically, itself illegal, and then embedding lines of code written in Farsi or Cyrillic, so that if the operation were discovered, the agency could claim *"it wasn't us, it was the Russians"* or the Iranians who *"forgot to translate"* their code. In fact, Kiriakou says, *"it was us."*[1][2]
