*Reality Winner, interviewed on Kiriakou's show, says she was never read her Miranda rights during her 2017 arrest by the FBI.*

- **Subject:** Reality Winner arrest
- **Claim:** Miranda rights not read

**Miranda rights** — the police warning that a suspect has the right to remain silent and to an attorney — became a point of contention in the arrest of NSA whistleblower Reality Winner, who discussed her case — including her prior work as a contractor linguist at [Fort Gordon](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/fort-gordon) — on [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou)'s show. Winner says the FBI agents who arrested her, Agent Garrick and Taylor, did not say "you are under arrest" or read her the Miranda rights familiar from television police procedurals.[1]

Winner states plainly: "I've never had my Miranda rights read to me. Never." She describes the arrest itself as unusually informal — the agents did not handcuff her, telling her instead, "We're going to have to take you in," before gesturing her toward an unmarked vehicle.[2]
