*Kiriakou's assessment of which espionage films get it right — Argo, The Recruit and Bridge of Spies — and his flat rejection of the action genre's premises, including the hidden weapons stash.*

- **Completely true:** Argo
- **Almost completely true:** The Recruit, except that trainees were not beaten
- **Historically accurate:** Bridge of Spies
- **Rejected:** The action genre — "it's totally made up"

Asked which espionage films resemble the job, [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou) named three.

*Argo* he calls "completely true. Completely, totally true," adding that the officers involved were heroes at the agency.[1] *The Recruit* he rates almost completely accurate, with a single correction drawn from his own time at [the Farm](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/the-farm): training was hard, "but they didn't beat us like they beat him."[1][2] *Bridge of Spies* he calls 100 per cent historically accurate.[2]

The action genre he rejects: "the action ones, it's totally made up."[2] Asked specifically whether he had ever had anything resembling a hidden room with a stash of weapons, in the manner of *Mr. & Mrs. Smith*, his answer was no — "nobody does."[1]
