*John Kiriakou's report, during the 2026 war, that the United Arab Emirates were seven days from exhausting their THAAD interceptors and Qatar four days — with American resupply unable to keep pace.*

- **UAE:** Out of THAAD missiles in seven days
- **Qatar:** Out in four days
- **Resupply:** "We can't resupply them quickly enough"
- **Kiriakou's verdict:** "So this is a problem"
- **Source of the figures:** Reports of the previous night

**THAAD stocks in the Gulf** became a subject on [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou)'s wartime Q&A after a viewer wrote in with two linked observations: that the Emirates appeared to be disproportionately targeted by the count of missiles intercepted, and that reports suggested the UAE and Qatar were running out of THAAD interceptors.

## The figures

Kiriakou confirmed the second point with specific numbers and a specific vintage. *"Yeah, so the reports uh from last night were that the UAE would be out of THAAD missiles in 7 days and the Qataris would be out of them in 4 days and we can't resupply them quickly enough. So this is a problem."*[1]

The three elements of that sentence carry the whole assessment: a finite stock, a measured burn rate, and a resupply chain that cannot match it.[1]

## Why it matters in his account of the war

Kiriakou's general reading of the 2026 conflict is one of asymmetric requirements. The United States and Israel, in his framing, have to win; Iran has only to survive, which is *"much, much easier than winning."* A defensive system with a countable number of rounds is exactly the sort of asset that favours the side that can afford to keep firing cheap weapons at it.[2]

He applies the same logic to Iran's own scarce systems in reverse: [hypersonic missiles](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/hypersonic-missiles) that cannot be intercepted are held back precisely because Iran has *"only a couple of them."*[3]

## The connected question

The same answer disposed of the questioner's first point. Kiriakou attributed the concentration of Iranian fire on the Emirates not to the presence of interceptors but to Emirati conduct in another war: [the UAE's role at the forefront of the campaign against the Houthis](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/why-the-uae-was-targeted).[4]

The two halves fit together into a single picture of the Gulf in 2026: states that had taken sides in earlier conflicts, being made to spend down a defensive stock that could not be replaced at the rate it was being used.[1][4]

## How good is the Qatari military

With Qatar reported to be intercepting Iranian shipping and forcing it into Doha, Ted Rall asked Kiriakou to rate the force doing it. His answer weighed size against training and came down on training: *"It's very tiny, but it's trained and equipped by the United States. So, it it's good. It's good."*[5]

He added a judgement about intent rather than capability — *"The Qataris are The Qataris are playing hardball right now"* — which sits directly against the depletion arithmetic reported the same week, in which Qatari interceptor stocks were four days from exhaustion and could not be resupplied fast enough.[5]
