At the same time, all Iran has to do to win is to survive."*[2] ## Why survival is available to Iran Kiriakou grounds the Iranian side of the asymmetry in scale rather than in will. Donald Trump had said he could see the attacks running for weeks; Kiriakou's answer was that weeks of attacks change nothing, because *"Iran is an enormous country. It has 92 million people. Its economy is diversified even under sanctions. It's military is spread out. It has a navy."*[2] On the same reasoning he treats a ground invasion as unavailable rather than merely unwise. Asked whether American ground troops would stop the drone and missile attacks on the Gulf Cooperation Council states, he answered that ground troops *"would be the start of World War III"* and that the attacks would only continue or accelerate.[3] Asked directly whether the campaign could avoid ending in disaster, he allowed only a downgrade of the adjective. *"It could result in a partial disaster"*, before returning to the same verdict: *"It's not going to work.
