**The move to Fort Myer** is [John Kiriakou](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/john-kiriakou)'s account, given on 31 October 2025, of where three senior officials of the second Trump administration had gone to live.

## The chalk on the sidewalk

Kiriakou had mentioned the week before that Stephen Miller lived in Arlington, Virginia, walking distance from his own house. For weeks people had been going over to write mean things in chalk on the sidewalk in front of it, and there was nothing Miller could do about it — *"the sidewalk is public, you know, it's public thoroughfare. You can do whatever you want."*[1]

Miller then *"abruptly sold his house for $2.3 million. It's a nice house. And moved."* Where he had gone was not disclosed at the time.[1][2]

## Where they went

The answer came from arlingtonnow.com, a hyper-local news site Kiriakou reads. *"Stephen Miller, Pete Hegseth, and Kristi Noem all moved onto Fort Myer Army base"* — the base that abuts Arlington — *"and they moved into housing that is reserved for one- to four-star generals. All three of them and their families."*[2][3]

His description of the arrangement was that it is *"the mother of all gated communities"*, and his objection was to the absence of any comment about it: *"they're just allowed to move into homes reserved for three- and four-star generals, and we're all supposed to just nod our heads."*[3][4]

## What the base used to be

Kiriakou has a personal measure of how closed Fort Myer became. Before [9/11](https://www.kiripedia.org/wiki/world-trade-center), he and his wife were both GS-15s and were therefore entitled to membership in the officers' club there. *"We used to go bowling, have a beer, have a burger. We'd go to the pool in the summer."*[3][4]

Afterwards, entry required a Defense Department identification showing either that the holder was a general living on the base or that they were assigned to it. *"So, I haven't been on that base since 9/11."*[4]

Asked what happens to the three when they leave office, he did not soften it: *"I guess we throw them out on their asses. And then they have to put up with the chalk remarks on their sidewalk."*[5]
