Israeli training of American police

The practice, which John Kiriakou opposes, of Israeli police and IDF personnel training American local police departments, including at the Atlanta facility known as Cop City.

Israeli training of American police is, in John Kiriakou’s account, an existing arrangement rather than a proposal — “one thing that most mainstream outlets don’t talk about is that the Israelis are already in the United States training local police departments.”[1]

The case he names is Atlanta: the facility known as Cop City is, he says, the site of Israeli police and IDF training of American police.[2]

His objection is stated plainly and on civil-liberties grounds: “I don’t want the Israelis training American police departments. The Israelis have no respect for human rights or civil rights or civil liberties.” He puts the question of association more broadly — this is a country that has bombed seven of its neighbours in the past year — and answers it: “Is that really the country that we want to throw our lot in with? I would say no.”[2][3]

He raises it in the same argument as Section 219 of the defence authorisation bill and the wider record of Israeli espionage in the United States.[3]
