Jon Ossoff

United States senator from Georgia, whom John Kiriakou places among the rare honest figures on Capitol Hill and grades at the top of his case-officer rankings. Kiriakou also notes a family connection to the wartime liberation of Greece.

Jon Ossoff is one of the two United States senators from Georgia. Kiriakou says that until about six months before speaking he “didn’t really know a lot about Jon Ossoff”, and that having come to know him he “really like[s] this guy.”[1][2]

The detail he offers first is genealogical and, for a Greek-American, pointed: Ossoff’s grandfather on his mother’s side was Australian and “was one of those heroes who parachuted onto the island of Crete in the middle of the night to drive the Nazis out of Crete and thus out of Greece, one of the heroes of the liberation of Greece during World War II.”[2][3]

His assessment separates the man from the politics: Ossoff is “one of these rare people on Capitol Hill who is as honest as the day is long. You don’t have to like all of his politics or his policies, but this guy belongs with Thomas Massie as an S. Honest. Exactly the kind of person you would want as a CIA case officer.”[3]
