The TikTok fan edits are the short-form videos that, on John Kiriakou’s own account, changed his life in eight weeks.
He found out about them second-hand, and abroad. He was on a business trip in Dubai when his niece called: “Uncle John, you’re exploding on TikTok.” Asked why, she could not say — “I don’t know, but you’re everywhere.”[1][2] He took it for a one-day algorithm event and went to bed.[2] The Creative Artists Agency called the next day, opening with “Tell us you’re not represented.” He was not, and by the end of the call he was.[3] Dating it in June 2026, he put the niece’s call at about eleven weeks earlier.[2]
The cause was a twenty-year-old sophomore at the University of Texas who had taken his Diary of a CEO appearance — an in-depth January 2026 interview he says he was proud of — cut it into shorts, slowed his speech down, given him a high-pitched Alvin and the Chipmunks voice and laser beams shooting out of his eyes, and released them. “And it just exploded and took on a life of its own.”[4][5][6] Asked why his name had become so widely known, that is the whole of the chain he traces — a single appearance rather than a body of work, and “just uh by happenstance.”[7] His attitude to being made a cartoon of himself is unresentful: “it’s all been in in good fun.”[6]
Kiriakou’s reading of it is not that the joke matters but that the access does: “I’m a 61-year-old man with access to Gen Z … And yes, they’re all having fun with it, but they’re discussing and considering very important ideas.”[4][8]
The consequences arrived quickly. He is now represented by the Creative Artists Agency, which he describes as the largest talent agency in the world, meeting Hollywood figures about films and television series; and having written nine books, he was asked to make the tenth a novel — his first fiction, already 10,000 words in.[8][9] “Life has changed completely in the last eight weeks only because this kid put me on Tik Tok. Bless him.”[9]
On his own programme he devoted a segment to the tributes, saying he cannot walk five feet without being recognised and that he has a personal policy of never refusing a selfie or an autograph. Among the items shown was a tattoo of his face on a fan’s leg — “I’m not sure that you’re going to want a tattoo of my pouting face 20 years from now, but listen, I’m humbled and flattered.”[10][11] He also mentioned a petition to put him on Dancing with the Stars.[12]
