Taybeh is, in John Kiriakou’s description, the only 100% Christian village in the West Bank and the site of the oldest brewery in the Holy Land.[1] He says a camera crew of his was present when the IDF rolled into Taybeh’s Marian festival with drones, helicopters, armored vehicles and stun grenades.[2] On hidden-camera audio, Kiriakou says, an Israeli soldier with an American accent told an abused woman “I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this,” only for his commander to yell, “We don’t talk to those animals like that. Don’t show them any respect.”[3] In a separate account, Kiriakou situates a fire that struck Taybeh within a single week of other West Bank violence: the day before the fire, he says, a Palestinian infant was shot in the West Bank, and in the same week four Palestinian female students were kidnapped by the IDF.[4]
