Carter Page

Trump campaign adviser against whom, per John Kiriakou, the FBI lied to the FISA court multiple times in order to obtain surveillance warrants. Kiriakou offers the episode as evidence less of a conspiracy than of an assumption — that at that level, with everything classified, officials believe the truth will simply never come out.

Carter Page was an adviser to the 2016 Trump campaign who became the subject of FISA court surveillance warrants. John Kiriakou’s account of how those warrants were obtained is blunt: “We know they lied multiple times to the FISA court to get warrants against Carter Page.” He names James Comey, then director of the FBI, among those responsible.[1]

The explanation he offers is institutional rather than conspiratorial. “At that level, with everything being classified and with their arrogance at the same time, I think they think they can just get away with it — the truth isn’t going to come out in the end.” His own view, given in the same breath, is that it does: “It looks like it will come out.”[1][2]
