David Boies

The American litigator John Kiriakou has appeared alongside on Piers Morgan's programme, and whose observation about Alan Dershowitz — that he was not merely Epstein's attorney but his publicist — Kiriakou treats as the key distinction in the case.

David Boies is an American litigator whom John Kiriakou describes as one of the most important criminal defence attorneys in America, and who has represented victims in the Jeffrey Epstein litigation.[1][2]

The distinction

Kiriakou’s principal use of Boies is a distinction the two of them discussed on a Piers Morgan panel. Discussing Alan Dershowitz, who was Epstein’s lawyer, Boies made the point that Dershowitz was more than that — he was Epstein’s friend, which Kiriakou says is fine, since a lawyer may be friends with a client “even if your clients are scumbags” — but that he was also Epstein’s publicist. “And that’s not fine.”[3][4]

Kiriakou pairs this with his own credit to Dershowitz: that whatever else, he is one of the very few people in that orbit who will get in front of any camera that is rolling to discuss the case.[3]

Black Cube

Boies appears in one other strand of Kiriakou’s account. Told that Black Cube, the Israeli private intelligence firm staffed by former Mossad officers, was allegedly used on someone in connection with the case and that Boies was the lead attorney involved, Kiriakou’s response is not about Boies but about the firm’s nationality: “the Israelis have no compunction at all about violating any law that gets in their way. And then they say, what are you going to do about it?”[5]
